Local fire officials are stressing the importance of having a 72 hour emergency kit on hand.
The Woodstock Fire Department is asking you to make sure you are ready for any potential disaster.
Emergency Preparedness Week starts on Monday May 2nd and local fire officials are preaching the importance of a 72 hour kit. Public Information coordinator Lisa Woods tells Heart FM why it is important to have a kit ready and at your disposal.
"Well if we do have something like a tornado or a major emergency in Woodstock, when you leave, you may not have access to that stuff for up to 72 hours, that is what we want you to be prepared for surviving the first 72 hours."
Woods says the main items to have in the kit are blankets, batteries, non perishable food, water and a first aid kit.
"Other items would be flashlight and batteries, a radio or a crank radio, first aid kit, a telephone that can work during a power disruption, candles, matches or a lighter, extra car keys and cash."
