Findings from the Community Wellbeing Survey suggest people in rural areas are more satisfied with their lives.
The final Community Wellbeing Survey report has been delivered and it suggests people living in rural areas are more satisfied with their lives.
Executive Director of the Woodstock and Area Community Health Centre Randy Peltz says people were reporting a high level of satisfaction in some areas.
"Living in a rural area with a higher income - those folks have the highest sense of wellbeing and life satisfaction. We had a very strong trend of volunteerism in Oxford County as well, which is encouraging. Very encouraging."
On the other side, Oxford's most dissatisfied group, according to the report, are those making under 40 thousand dollars a year. They were more likely to be unhappy at work, less likely to join in with community activities, and had fewer close friends.
Director of the Canadian Index of Wellbeing Bryan Smale says this result comes as no surprise.
"I think that's something that Oxford Partnership recognized from the get go and they wanted to look at income as one of the key factors effecting wellbeing here and it did provide some evidence to suggest that was an area of concern."
Future Oxford will now begin the first stage of its plan to use the survey results to set measurable targets. They plan to travel around the county to make presentations on the results of the Survey and engage community leaders in planning sessions in early 2017.
Consultation and discussion will focus on five key themes: community engagement, accessibility, quality of work, health behaviours and perceptions, and geographic location.
