Environment Canada is predicted wind chill values close to minus 30.
UPDATE: Environment Canada has cancelled the extreme cold warning for Oxford County.
---
OXFORD COUNTY - You better bundle up if you have to go outside.
An extreme cold warning is currently in effect with Environment Canada predicting wind chill values close to minus 30 for this morning. The conditions should start to improve later this morning, but Environment Canada is still predicting a wind chill of minus 18 for this afternoon and minus 21 for tonight.
Southwestern Public Health has issued a cold weather alert warning everyone to take precautions to protect themselves from frostbite and hypothermia. This includes staying inside whenever possible.
If you have to go out you should dress in warm layers, cover all exposed skin, and avoid strenuous exercise in this weather. You should also avoid drinking caffeinated or alcoholic beverages because they can make you lose body heat more quickly.
Pet owners should be cautious of how long they let their furry friends outside in this weather. If its too cold for you, it's too cold for your pet.
Several school buses have been cancelled in Oxford County today due to the weather.
