A ceremony was held at Eastdale Public School to honour the gold certification by the Ontario Physical and Health Education Association.
WOODSTOCK - Eastdale Public School was honoured by the Ontario Physical and Health Education Association.
The Gold Certification was for their efforts to promote health and well-being programming for students, staff and the school community. At a ceremony today, Public Health Nurse on the Healthy Schools Team with Southwestern Public Health, Helen Lukianchuck spoke highly of the programs offered at the school.
"As a health school nurse here at Eastdale, I offered program initiatives such as Wellness Club, the Healthy Relationships Plus program, and a Let's Get Cooking, a school-based food skills program."
Lukianchuck mentions the programs bring a sense of belonging for the students, which helps influence physical health, mental wellbeing, positive behaviour, and academic performance. Principal, Steve Burroughs speaks to the growth he sees in the students that are able to take part in the programs at the school.
"We're seeing students who sign up for our Zen Zone, for example, in our younger grades, where they come and learn mindfulness activities and strategies to cope with their mental health. And those students then build on that and come out to Wellness Club in the later grades. And we see those same students then coming out to our Let's Get Cooking program in grades 5 and 6."
Eastdale Public School was one of 7 schools in Southwestern Public Health's region to get honoured with the Gold Certificate.
