Oxford County's impressive sports heritage will be on display on May 30th with Doors Open Oxford
Doors Open Oxford returns for another year.
The event has been running since 2004, and this year a theme has been added; Oxford County's impressive sports heritage will be on display on May 30th from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Chairperson for the Doors Open Oxford Committee, Kathie Richards says this event provides a wonderful family outing opportunity. "It's a family event for all ages. A couple of the sites have children's games that are similar to what was played in the early 1900s at school fairs and other events. So they can hoola-hoop or do an egg and spoon race. There are a lot of things for people to see and do."
Some of the highlights of Doors Open Oxford include the Beachville Museum where the first recorded baseball game in North America was played. They will be playing the game just as it was when they first showed it in 1838. Pittock Conservation Area is also hosting a few events, and there will be Olympic memorabilia on display at the Annandale National Historic Site.
The Oxford Sailing Club will be at Pittock Park all day Saturday for anyone who wants to come out and check out the facility or possibly go on a sailboat ride, weather permitting. The Upper Thames Conservation Authority is offering free admission at Pittock all day for Doors Open Oxford.
The event will run rain or shine, and there is no cost associated.
