College Ave Church is where the public can drop of new school items at the Operation Sharing location on Wilson St.
WOODSTOCK - Operation Sharing is hoping for some last minute donations as they get ready to hand out back packs to kids heading back to school.
Every year the organization does their Knapsacks for Kids program where they collect donations of brand new back packs for kids to take to school. They are hoping to hand out 300 knapsacks once again this year, however they are a little short on donations right now. Coordinator of the program Caren Bright tells Heart FM the inspiration behind Knapsacks for Kids.
"I was in a position where I couldn't get a back pack for my son to go back to school, and I stopped and though if I'm having trouble making ends meat and struggling to get him what he needed for school, so I wondered how many others out there are in the same boat, so I came up with this plan for the Knapsacks for Kids program and took it to the Operation Sharing Board of Directors. Operation Sharing liked the idea and we tried it the one year as a pilot, and it was a success and the board liked the program and ever since then it has been a necessity really."
Bright says they will be handing out the backpacks next week on Wednesday in Ingersoll and on Thursday and Friday in Woodstock. If your interested in donating you can do so at the Operation Sharing office inside the College Ave Church on Wilson Street.
