Fully vaccinated students will not need to quarantine or self-isolate for 10 days when coming into contact with a high risk person.
Ontario will have different rules for vaccinated and un-vaccinated students who are 12 years and older in the fall.
Over 300,000 eligible students in the Province have not received a dose of the vaccine to date. Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore says vaccinated children will not have to quarantine when they come in close contact.
"If you are two dose vaccinated, plus 14 days, we will offer you a test if you have been in contact with a high risk person, if you test negative, you can go right back to school, right back to work. So a tremendous advantage of being two dosed immunized, by being able to stay in school, attend sports and participate fully in all of the social activities of the school setting."
Dr. Moore says this approach will be different for unvaccinated children.
"If you are not immunized and you have been in contact with a high risk contact, you will be off for a minimum of 10 days, you will have to get two COVID-19 tests, one initially and then another around day 7. If that test on day 7 is positive then you are off for another 10 days."
He hopes parents and students can see the advantage of getting vaccinated.
The Province has yet to release a comprehensive back to school plan for September. Premier Doug Ford says they will be releasing that plan shortly.
