Members of the CUPW were on hand this morning, picketing at the Office of Oxford County's MP Arpan Khanna.
WOODSTOCK - Canada Post employees today were picketing at the Office of Oxford County's MP Arpan Khanna.
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers declared the nationwide strike last week, after Ottawa announced sweeping changes aimed at shoring up Canada Post's finances.
President of the CUPW local 634 in Woodstock, Reid Hague explains what employees are seeking.
"We're trying to get a contract which we have been waiting on for two years, and our biggest stumbling point is on how we're going to protect full-time jobs, so we are all kind of suspended in our lives on what we can do."
Hague was among those in attendance this morning looking to pass along this message.
"My biggest message is we're trying to protect the post office so you keep affordable rates for shipping. We at Canada Post have reasonable rates and good-paying jobs, and we want to keep that service for the public as well as ourselves."
Ottawa announced door-to-door mail delivery will end for nearly all Canadian households within the next decade.
