A recent Zorra Township council meeting saw discussion on improving a crosswalk at the intersection of Dundas and Thames Street in Thamesford.
THAMESFORD - A crosswalk in Thamesford has been cause for concern for some residents.
The current Dundas and Thames Street intersection has pedestrian lights and only paint to guide pedestrians.
Zorra Township Mayor Marcus Ryan says they may need something better for those who use the crosswalk.
"The Crosswalk in Thamesford crossing Dundas at George Street right beside the branch of the Oxford County Library in Thamesford, has been an ongoing problem for years where township staff, county staff, and the residents have struggled to find what the optimal solution for it would be and is still ongoing, myself and councillor Davies will be meeting with Oxford County public works to try and work on a long term plan for that intersection and try to improve it so we will be getting back to Zorra community police, committee, and council probably in the last meeting of November or early December."
Ryan adds that with the population increase something has to be done fast.
"It's felt by a lot of residence including myself that we need to do something better there because it's not as obvious as it could be, and as the community has grown already and with the anticipated growth due to the more Thames springs and in addition the Thamesford redevelopment due to the township buying the maple leaf property, the vehicle count and the pedestrian count will increase so we have to have something better there."
The intersection still has no permanent solution yet, but is in development to fix the crosswalk permanently.
