Cowan Park Gets Creative

Cowan Park looking to win Aviva Community Fund to pay for costs remaining for the park. They need your vote.

WOODSTOCK - With $1.6 million still owing to the City of Woodstock, Cowan Park is looking for creative ways to raise money.

That's why they have entered themselves into the Aviva Community Fund where they could win a share of one million dollars in prize money. 

Cowan Park Administrator Karen Langdon is appealing to the public to log on to Aviva's website and vote for their project. 

"We are really trying our hardest to pay down the remaining $1.6 million that is owning to the City of Woodstock. If we can get rid of that debt, that's obviously going to allow us to make improvements to the facility, it's going to allow us to expand our programming, maybe hire a few people, so it's a win win."

"One of our fundraising committee members brought this fund to my attention," says Langdon "I had the opportunity to apply to it the other day and basically it's a community fund supported by Aviva and it's to make a difference in what matters to most Canadians by helping people make positive changes in their community."

Langdon says locals can vote every day for the project they like the best through Aviva's website. 

"The voters determine the 120 finalists in each of the three qualifying rounds. Then it goes down to the semi-finals, you're guaranteed $5,000. The final round, judges basically determine who wins a portion of the million dollars."

The first qualifying round of voting is on now through to October 13.
