Oxford County Council has decided against increasing the speed limit on Main Street in Springford and has instead decided to make the area a Community Safety Zone.
SPRINGFORD - The speed limit will not be increasing on Main Street in Springford.
Oxford County Council looked over a report from staff yesterday, which recommended increasing the speed limit from 50 kilometres per hour to 60 kilometres per hour.
Warden Marcus Ryan says council decided to not increase the speed limit and decided to make the area a Community Safety Zone instead.
"At present, it means we can do different things such as reducing the speed limit where it wouldn't otherwise be warranted because of traffic count. It also means one day when and if Oxford County automated speed enforcement, which have not decided to do yet, we would be able to put up a speed camera in Community Safety Zones."
About 440 people signed a petition against the proposed increase.
The report from council also included road safety recommendations for the communities of Curries, Foldens, Culloden, Verschoyle, Sweaburg and Dereham Centre. They were all passed by Council and you can read the full report online here.
