Ingersoll Mayor Ted Comiskey also isn't pleased with the provincial Environment Minister's response to landfill concerns. "I think that I would have liked to have seen a little more concern about the whole situation." Earlier this week, Heart FM told you about the response of Jim Bradley to Oxford County's letter, asking for a moratorium in new landfills in the province. Bradley said a moratorium wasn't being considered. Comiskey was one of the key drivers of the motion to write the government, over concerns about the Walker Landfill proposal in Beachville. While Comiskey says it wasn't a surprise Bradley said a moratorium wasn't being considered, he says there was no sense of urgency on the matter. "I think it should take a lot more concern than the letter actually brings forward to say 'Yes we are concerned about it'. A phenomenal number of tonnes of waste, something like 17-million, over the next 20-years will be coming from the Greater Toronto Area, potentially, into Oxford County." He tells Heart FM he hopes the issue of garbage and landfills will be front and centre, should there be a provincial election in the near future. "The Ontario government is in turmoil right now. I think with an election coming up, potentially, I think at that point in time it should be a large issue. It better be a large issue. Hopefully down the road it will get the respect and address it deserves." Others in Oxford County have called Bradley's letter "cookie cutter" and "generic".
