With temperatures expected to feel like minus 26 this evening a cold weather alert has been issued for the region.
Oxford County Public Health has issued the first cold weather alert of 2016.
Temperatures are expected to drop below -14 this evening and with the wind gusts it will feel more like -26 degrees on Monday. Cold weather alerts are issued when Environment Canada forecasts an air temperature below -15°C or a wind chill below -20°C.
When the mercury drops this low it doesn't take long for frostbite to set in or hypothermia. Seniors, infants and young children are the most susceptible tot he cold. Also it's important for anyone working outdoors to dress appropriately.
