Cold Front Moving in on Wednesday Night

The heat wave is expected to end on Wednesday night in Oxford County.

A heat wave remains in effect across the region today. 

Metrologies with Environment Canada Gerald Cheng says the heat warning will last for at least one more day. 

"We are still stuck with this air mass for two more days, today and Wednesday but relief is in sight because we have cold front passing through Southern Ontario on Wednesday night. This will set up for a much more comfortable end to the first week of school. We are antic

Cheng says we could get some thunderstorms later this afternoon and early in the evening which should cool things down. He notes this summer hasn't been as hot as some people may think. 

"If you look at last summer, last summer wasn't very warm but if you look at 2016, we actually issued 7 heat warnings for Southern Ontario, this year we have issued 6 heat warnings. I think people just remember last summer wasn't very warm and this summer is sort of a contrast to last year and that is why people have this impression that it has been really warm, but summers can bring on heat waves and this is one of them." 

Warnings are put in place when conditions pose a risk for heat related illness such as heat stroke.

Those with medical conditions, the elderly or small children should avoid being outside for long periods of time.  People working outdoors should take breaks indoors often and drink plenty of water.
