Clear Your Vents

Woodstock Fire asking residents to check their furnace and dryer vents

WOODSTOCK - The latest winter storm has caused snow to blow and pile up potentially blocking off your furnace and dryer vents. 

Woodstock Fire Public Information Officer Lisa Woods says the vents exhaust dangerous carbon monoxide gas from the home.

"If those vents become blocked due to snow or ice, the carbon monoxide can build up in your home putting you and your family at risk. Absolutely take some time to go and dig those out and if you have neighbours who are unable to do that themselves, please be a good neighbour today and help them out as well."

"If the alarm does go off, we want you to exit the home and call 9-1-1. Leave the doors and windows shut so we can come in with our detectors and determine where the source is and remedy the problem as soon as possible."

Woods also reminds residents with fire hydrants in front of their homes to keep them clear just incase there is an emergency and those hydrants are needed as every second counts when it comes to a fire.
