The Township of Zorra has updated their procedural bylaw, which impacts the calling, place and proceedings of their council meetings.
ZORRA TOWNSHIP - Change is in the air in Zorra Township Council Chambers.
Zorra Township has amended their procedural bylaw, which affects the calling, place and proceedings of council meetings.
Director of Corporate Services Karen Martin says the average citizen who attends these meetings shouldn't notice a difference.
"A couple of the amendments include the definition of the term meeting as well as increased exemptions to use to move into closed meetings, so those are cited in the bylaw."
Martin adds they now have the power to let their councillors use applications like Skype to participate in meetings while they are out of town.
"The one thing that the new legislation does allow is electronic participation in council meetings. Our council at this time is not moving forward with it as we are still investigating it."
The changes had to be made in accordance with Bill 68, which modernizes Ontario's Municipal Legislation Act.
