The Embro Highland Games will return for their 85th year on Monday July 1st.
EMBRO - It's Canada Day fun in Zorra Township, but with a Scottish flair.
The Embro Highland Games will return for their 85th year this holiday Monday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
There are lots of fun events on the schedule including highland dancing, the Scottish livestock display, whiskey barrel rolling, and heavy events like the caber toss.
A caber is a large tree trunk that looks similar to a telephone pole. Director of Radio Advertising Alan Normand explains what the competitors have to do with it.
"You have to get it at the right angle, the right speed, and just the right velocity to pitch it. You're looking to try to get it at the 12 o'clock position to count, but if it falls back, look out!"
Normand says the Scottish Dog Parade will also make a comeback this year.
"That's a crowd favourite and Bill Carr from Stratford brings that all together. It's very well attended, they have their own little presentation in the dog field in the south end and partly in the shade."
Tickets cost $30 for adults and $10 for youth between the ages of 12 and 17. Kids under 12 will get in for free and there is also no charge for parking.
You can find more information regarding the Embro Highland Games and purchase advanced tickets online here. You can also find event updates on the Embro Highland Games Facebook page.
Alan Normand stopped by the Heart FM studio to chat with Dan and Marcie on Thursday June 27th. You can listen to the full interview below:
