Any water being pumped from the west quarry at Carmeuse Lime would be put directly into the Thames River.
According to Carmeuse Lime, they are not planning to empty the lake should their application to pump water from the west quarry pond get approved.
As we told you last week, Carmeuse Lime Canada has an application before the Ministry of Environment to temporarily pump from the quarry to satisfy their Ministry of Natural Resources licence requirements for rehabilitation.
Vice President of Carmeuse Lime and Stone Kevin Whyte says despite what some locals think, the pumping of the quarry has absolutely nothing to do with Walker Environmental's landfill proposal.
"We would have to do that same activity whether or not their was a Walker project so it's really not connected to the Environmental Assessment that Walker will be working on."
"It is very important to Carmeuse Lime and Stone to be a good corporate citizen and that we want to be responsible when it comes to the environment. We will do whatever we need to do in order to comply with the permits and the laws that are in place."
Regional Environmental Manager at Carmeuse, Chris Martin says they will be doing a monitoring test of the water levels.
"We will be monitoring surrounding wells as we drop it in intervals. We are not going to just empty that lake, we're going to be doing it in intervals and making sure that the surrounding wells are not effected but that was a dry quarry at one time. "
Martin says all of the water removed from the quarry will be put into the Thames River.
Protesters are expected to congregate Friday from 3 to 4 p.m. at the entrance to Carmeuse Lime, just North of the 4-way stop at Beachville Rd to protest again the pumping of the quarry.
