A man from Stratford is out $11,000 after falling victim to the Canada Revenue Agency Scam.
STRATFORD - A Stratford Man has been duped out of $11,000 after falling victim to what is commonly known as the Canada Revenue Agency Scam.
Police say they received a call from a 45 year old man who had recently transferred $11,000 to someone who they thought worked for the CRA. The man was threatened that he would be arrested if he didn't pay his back taxes over the phone and the scammer told him there was a warrant out for his arrest. Police attempted to cancel the money transfers to no avail. The transfers were cashed immediately when received.
The Stratford Police Service is reminding everyone not to fall victim to the Canada Revenue Agency, CRA, scam. The CRA doesn't operate in this manner. If you receive a telephone call from someone claiming to be from the CRA hang up the and report this to the police. If a message is left for you on your telephone please ignore it and call the police.
