Free session focusing on bullying coming to Woodstock Thursday
UPDATE: The event has been cancelled due to the weather.
WOODSTOCK - A free session focusing on cyber bullying and bullying in schools will be held in Woodstock Thursday, November 20th.
Stop Bully Now!, a free public event will be held at the Children's Aid Society on Peel Street from 7:00 to 8:00 pm.
Jennifer McDonald of Ontario Early Years says Greg Anderson, a School Superintendent will be the guest speaker for the event. "Greg Anderson is a retired Superintendent of Education from Brant County and Greg has done many, many shows on bullying and he talks about cyber bullying and bullying in schools and how to recognize it and support your child through it."
McDonald highlights that this session is an "informative presentation on cyber bullying and bullying in schools and we're inviting parents and their youth to come together to learn about cyber bullying and any professionals working with parents in the community."
They suggest parents, youth in grades 5-8 (who must be accompanied by a parent/guardian) attend as the kids in this age range are the ones being introduced to social media and texting. "I think this is something we need to learn together. I know I have Facebook and I text but there's lots of things I don't know and I think once it's out there, it's very hard to get back. So I think we all need to be aware of what our youth are doing on Facebook but also what we put out on Facebook that others can see -- it's an education piece and it's wonderful to do that education piece with your child."
