The new Oxford County Council will meet Wednesday to deliberate the upcoming 2015 budget.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County tax payers can expect good news at todays County budget meeting for the New Year.
The preliminary budget is proposing a 2 percent increase to the levy collected from property owners, a collective $52.1 million for the 2015 year. According to MPAC the effect this would have on an average single family detached residential property valued at just over $230,000 will decrease by $2.77 in 2015.
Chief Administrative Officer for the County, Peter Crockett said, "Well the draft budget we have put in front of council is essentially maintaining and sustaining the services that we've got, protecting our infrastructure as we go forward, it is a 2 percent increase in our gross budget." Crockett adds, "It results in effectively a zero tax increase."
Council will meet four times to deliberate the budget, including twice in December and twice in January.
"It's a responsible budget, it is taking into account the pressures that we've got from a financial standpoint at the same time recognizing that it is the public dollar that we are spending we're being prudent with it and ensuring that our services are maintained and that we are also looking to the future and making sure our infrastructure is protected as well."
