Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oxford County would like to raise $15,000 for the S.O.A.R. program this March.
OXFORD COUNTY - Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oxford County is inviting everyone to S.O.A.R. into March.
S.O.A.R. stands for Social Opportunities Activities Relationships and it's a free group mentoring program for youth waiting for a mentor.
Fund Development Coordinator Nicole Killaire says each group includes about seven to 10 kids with two to three mentors, and they meet once a week for about seven to eight weeks.
"We've done karate, horseback riding, dancing, art classes and we're really looking to expand the opportunities that we're able to offer these young people as they wait to be matched."
She says Big Brothers Big Sisters would like to raise $15,000 for the S.O.A.R. program this month.
"When you break that down it's only about $100 per person on the waitlist right now. We've seen such an increase in applications for our services over the last year, so that's why we're putting the focus on S.O.A.R. so much right now and making sure those young people are supported while they wait for a match."
You can donate online here or in person at the Woodstock or Ingersoll office.
Nicole Killaire stopped by the Heart FM studio to chat with Dan and Marcie on Tuesday March 12th. You can listen to the full interview below:
