Graduating high school students in Oxford County can now apply for a $500 bursary from the Woodstock-Ingersoll and District Real Estate Board.
WOODSTOCK/INGERSOLL - The Woodstock-Ingersoll and District Real Estate Board is accepting applications for the 2021 bursary.
Every year they donate $500 bursaries to students in local high schools who will be entering a trade. President Alison Porter says this has been happening for years.
"For years, the WIDREB has donated a $500 bursary to local secondary schools in Oxford County to be awarded to a student entering a trade once they graduate. The school guidance councillors are notified each spring of this award and are send an application form. They then advertise this bursary to the graduating class in their school and any student entering any trade can apply. The school then presents us with the application
of the chosen student or sometimes students. At graduation, a REALTOR® of our board will attend and present the student with their $500 bursary. Now last year with COVID19, this was not possible and students where mailed their cheques."
Last year they handed out bursaries to the following students:
- College Ave Secondary School to Olivia Minogue
- St. Mary’s Catholic Secondary School to Cynthia Quaite
- Huron Park Secondary School to Nathan Dejue
- Woodstock Collegiate Institute to Cassandra Berberick,
- Ecole secondarie Notre-Dame to Quinn Hood & Lavaah Foster
- Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute to Isabell Pike
Porter says they will keep doing this program, even in the pandemic.
"WIDREB will be continuing to donate these trade bursaries for years to come. They know the importance of post secondary education and support local students in Oxford
County."
If you know a student graduating in 2021 and entering a trade encourage them to contact their guidance department at their school and apply.
