Ingersoll antes up to public groups battling the landfill.
Ingersoll Town Council is putting up $25,000 in the fight against the Walker Landfill.
Last night at Ingersoll Town Council, the grant was issued to the OPAL Alliance and Oxford Coalition for Social Justice to take the fight to the next level.
Both groups are saying they hope the funding will "educate, engage, encourage and empower" the community.
Bryan Smith with the Coalition says the use for these funds is really, up to the imagination of the community. "We're aware that there are other partners who have been also working on this and fighting the dump. We're open to ideas of any kind of action that would be useful in preventing the dump from happening. So we're going to manage the funds with a joint committee that's going to include several of the partners."
Ingersoll Mayor Ted Comiskey tells Heart FM this morning he wants to see the money, "Goes out to inform people and gets people interested in coming forward..." to be engaged in the rally against the proposal.
OPAL's Treasurer, Reagan Franklin says the Alliance appreciates Town Council's support, and they will be approaching other local councils with a similar request. "This is an Oxford County issue and therefore our Alliance will also be approaching every other local municipality and Oxford County Council with our request for funding to help protect and preserve our water, air and quality of life."
Comiskey agrees, "It isn't just Ingersoll, all of Oxford County should be standing up and say 'Hey, hold it here. We do not wish for this landfill to happen.'"
