Norwich Fire & Protective Services has replaced one of it's pumper trucks with a Rosenbauer 101-foot aerial platform.
NORWICH TOWNSHIP - Firefighters in Norwich Township are now being trained for high-rise rescues.
The Township recently replaced one of it's pumper trucks with a Rosenbauer 101-foot aerial platform. The new truck arrived last week, but Deputy Fire Chief Derek VanPagee says it could still be a while before it's officially in service.
"Each firefighter needs to have a certain amount of drive-time hours on the apparatus. This is in addition to performing various tasks on the apparatus, the aerial device and the ladder such as operation and climbing before we can put it into service."
VanPagee says this new truck is needed because Norwich is now home to a four-storey high-rise building.
"Aerial platform means it has the bucket up in the front, so we could have two firefighters in there to perform rescues. We could have potentially people on a roof or on the fourth storey that could enter the bucket and we could lower them to the ground for safety purposes."
The new truck cost the Township just under $1.5-million in the end.
