The Ford Government will expand fourth dose eligibility to adults over the age of 60 tomorrow morning. This will also apply to First Nation, Inuit and Metis individuals and their non-Indigenous household members over the age of 18.
ONTARIO - The Ford Government has unveiled it's plan to expand fourth dose eligibility.
Starting Friday April 7th, people over the age of 60 will be able to book an appointment for their second COVID-19 booster shot. First Nation, Inuit and Metis individuals and their non-Indigenous household members over the age of 18 will also be able to book an appointment for their fourth dose.
Southwestern Public Health stopped booking appointments for COVID-19 vaccinations on April 1st. It's only accepting walk-in appointments at it's mass vaccination sites and walk-in clinics.
Health Minister Christine Elliott says the second booster shot will provide an extra layer of protection against the Omicron and BA.2 variants.
“Vaccines are our best defense against COVID-19 and its variants. Because of our exceptionally high vaccination rates and Ontario’s cautious approach, we currently have one of the lowest hospitalization rates in the country and have performed well throughout this pandemic when compared to other similar sized provinces and states. I encourage everyone who’s eligible to get boosted as soon as you’re able.”
People over the age of 80, long-term care residents, retirement home residents and other vulnerable individuals have been eligible for the second booster shot since December 20th.
