All three Wildcats teams that attended the St. Catherines Chaos Girls Hockey Tournament this past weekend came home with medals. After going to a shootout for the second tournament in a row, this time the Peewee B team (in photo) won gold over a team from West Seneca, New York. After winning their first game they stopped for lunch at a restaurant owned by former all-star Marcel Dionne. The Hall of Famer was gracious with his time and spent the lunch hour offering advice from his years in the NHL. The team then continued through the tournament unbeaten, allowing only 2 goals in 5 games. After a 0-0 draw through regulation and overtime, MVP Sydney Moller stymied the West Seneca shooters while Ashley Feledi and Shalyn Herrett scored to seal the shootout victory. Coach Mark Feledi commented that the team put on a great defensive effort throughout the tournament and all the coaches have seen great improvement since the last tournament. The Atom B team also went to a shootout in the final game against Stratford, but came away with the silver medal. The Atoms were also undefeated leading up to the finals and MVP goalie Erin Depatie did not allow a goal in the tournament until the shootout. Coach George Friesen commented that it was ?also a testament to strong team defense and gritty back checking. It was a great team building experience for all the girls.? The Midget B team also came home with silver after falling 1-0 to Lambeth in the final game. After winning their first two round robin games, they lost to Lambeth in their third. The two met again in the final - a tight checking, closely fought game that came down to the final seconds.
