It's another 6-years and 8-months in jail for Bonita Purtill. The woman convicted earlier this summer in the drunk driving death of 4-month-old Alex Fleming was sentenced by Justice Kelly Gorman this afternoon. She gave Purtill 5-years and 8-months for the impaired driving and criminal negligence convictions, plus an additional year for refusing to provide a breath sample. That was essentially the full 7-year sentence the Crown was seeking. Justice Gorman credited Purtill with time served in pre-sentence custody at the Elgin-Middlesex Detention Centre. She received 1.5-days credit for each day served for 4-months of credit. Purtill's lawyer, Peter Kratzman was seeking a 2-4-year term. Purtill will also have to submit a DNA sample for the National Databank, she faces a 10-year ban on driving and is not to have any contact with the Rodrigues or Fleming family.
