Sudden white-outs causing havoc on the 401 causing the closure of the east and westbound lanes.
A fast moving, intense streamer caused complete white-out conditions and zero visibility in Oxford County this morning.
Unfortunately, the sudden blast has led to a number of collisions on the 401 east and west of Woodstock.
Oxford OPP have closed the eastbound and westbound lanes of the 401 between Oxford Road 29 (Drumbo Road) and Cedar Creek Road. Motorists in that area are saying 20 or more vehicles have been involved in crash in the westbound lanes while a couple of jack-knifed transport trucks are causing issues in the eastbound lanes.
According to OPP Constable, Stacey Culbert, there is a serious multi vehicle collision in the westbound lanes between Cedar Creek Rd. and Drumbo Rd. and motorists can expect that closure to last for a number of hours.
There have been reports of collisions west of Woodstock towards Ingersoll and heading into London. The westbound lanes of the 401 have been closed at Veterans Memorial and traffic is at a complete standstill in the eastbound lanes from Wellington to Highbury in London.
Police have had to close the 402 westbound from the 401 until Lambton County due to white-out conditions. The same goes for the provincial highways and township roads in Huron and Perth counties as well.
Snow squalls are causing hazardous driving conditions north of Toronto as well with a major, multiple vehicle collision being reported on the 400.
OPP are again urging motorists to slow down and drive according to the weather and road conditions; if you do not have to travel, stay home and off the roads.
