35th Annual Terry Fox Run

The event will kick off from 94 Graham Street in Woodstock starting at 9am

WOODSTOCK - The 35th edition of the Terry Fox Marathon of Hope will take over Woodstock this Sunday.

Dundas Street from Van Ave to Museum Square will be closed off the event. You can choose between four courses this year with a 1-km, 2.5 km, 5 km and 10 km route and you can run, walk, roller blade or ride your bike in support of the charity. Bill Gillespie has been chairing the Terry Fox run committee since it's inception with the Lions Club of Woodstock and tells Heart FM why this charity is so important.

"It's a very important event, it is the grandfather of all fundraising events in Canada, he was the first the foremost and I think the most important thing we have to remember is he visited Woodstock and he dared us to never forget him when he visited our community. Terry Fox remember was a very young man when he was diagnosed and when he was in hospital, he saw the suffering that the children went through and that is when he realized that the future of our country is the growth of our children."

All of the money raised will go towards cancer research and organizers are hoping to raise $35,000 in honour of the 35 year anniversary. You can register the day of the event starting at 9 a.m at 94 Graham Street and you can grab a pledge form online at www.terryfox.org/Run/Download_pledge_sheet or simply donate at the event during the registration.
