19-Million Dollar Budget for 2018

Woodstock City Council has had their first look at a proposed Capital Budget for 2018.

WOODSTOCK - Budget talks are underway in Woodstock City Council chambers.

A proposed 2018 capital budget of $18,976,000 was presented to council at their meeting last night.

Chief Administrative Officer David Creery says it has a strong focus preserving what we already have.

"About 87 percent of the spending is to maintain and repair existing assets. The balance would be new projects or growth related projects."

The budget dedicates $16,500,000 to conservation projects.

Creery says the largest task comes with a price tag of $2,475,000.

"The single largest capital project in terms of dollar value being proposed is the clean out of the Southside Pond; the sediment removal and the construction of a sediment forebay. It will also include the replacement of the bridge that goes over the channel just downstream of the dam."

Council will take a closer look at this potential budget on Tuesday and it will be revisited at their next meeting in December.
