The Woodstock Public Library building was honoured in Queens Park.
WOODSTCK - The iconic Woodstock Public Library building has been honoured on a provincial level.
In honour of World Architecture Day MPP's from across the province got to nominate a building in their riding that they believe has architectural significance.
Library CEO Bruce Gorman says library buildings always stand out.
"Libraries are unique places for a whole bunch of reasons including the fact that they're really iconic architectural beacons for cities around the world and welcoming places for everybody to come and enjoy."
Oxford MPP Ernie Hardeman nominated the Woodstock Public Library building on Hunter Street and it was one of the eight buildings selected by the Ontario Association of Architects to be honoured in Queens Park.
Gorman tells Heart FM what makes the local library building one of a kind.
"It's a stunningly beautiful Carnegie library built in 1909. I've seen quite a few Carnegie libraries in Canada and other places and I'm bias I'm sure but I've never seen one that is as beautiful as ours."
Gorman got to visit Queens Park in Toronto on Monday in order to discuss the library's architecture with MPP's and architects.
Here's a list of the other buildings selected by Ontario Association of Architects;
- BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Toronto (Etobicoke)
- Canadian Club Brand Heritage Centre, Windsor
- Cobalt Train Station, Cobalt
- Museum of Nature, Ottawa
- North Bay Regional Health Care, North Bay
- Templar Flats, Hamilton
- Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health, Ottawa (Vanier)
