Woodstock Fire has confirmed one woman and one man have died as a result of the fire on McQueen Street.
WOODSTOCK - The investigation into an early morning fire at McQueen Street in Woodstock continues.
The Woodstock Fire Department received a call at 6:22 this morning about a residential fire, but by the time they arrived on the scene visible flames and heavy smoke had already settled in.
One man managed to escape the blaze, and one other individuals has been taken to hospital for major injuries. The resident who escaped informed Fire Services that the home did in fact have working smoke alarms at the time of the incident.
The Fire Department will likely remain at the scene throughout most of the day, ensuring the building is structurally sound and putting out hot spots when they occur as well as waiting for the Fire Marshall who will be taking over the investigation from here on out.
Road closures to be aware of include Simcoe Street and MetCalf, as well as all of McQueen. Lisa Woods Public Information Coordinator of the Woodstock Fire Department asks for residents to avoid the area if at all possible
Update: One man escaped from the home, while another man was removed by The Woodstock Fire Department. The second man was unconscious when he was extracted from the house - he has been sent to hospital with serious injuries. A woman remains unaccounted for at this time.
