It was a long, hard two days journey, but one woman from Woodstock took part in The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer.
WOODSTOCK - 4,200 riders raised $17.3 million for The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer.
The event was in support of the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre - one of the top five cancer research centre's in the world for cancer research.
Riders travelled 214 kms from Toronto to Niagara Falls over two days.
Jessica Meiling, a Woodstock resident, joined the ride after her diagnosis of Thyroid cancer and her grandfather's death from lung cancer.
Meiling talks about how trail riding and training for this has helped after her diagnosis.
"It's a great way of clearing my head with everything I was going through. It was kind of like therapy. I was looking ahead of me constantly and leaving things behind me, including the trails. When I came across the Ride to Conquer Cancer it seemed like a bigger extension of my therapy."
Meiling says the ride was difficult at times, with the heat and the hills, but she says you have to push those barriers aside.
"But we persevered. We said, you know what, we didn't come this far to give up now. We finished the first day at McMaster university. We may not have had the best speed for the day, but we finished."
Meiling talks about how her life changed after her diagnosis.
"You just doubt your body more. I tell everyone I love them more. I show more appreciation for the little things in life. I have more perseverance, I don't give up easily."
One team in the ride raised $1 million.
This was the 9th annual ride.
