The Woodstock sign by the Norwich Avenue exit has been removed to make way for overpass construction.
WOODSTOCK - If you're passing by the Friendly City on the 401 might notice the Woodstock sign has been removed.
Many residents are asking what happened to the sign by the Norwich exit and Engineer with the City of Woodstock Harold deHaan says the sign was removed so the MTO could do some work on that overpass. "We had to take down the Woodstock sign by the Norwich exit because the MTO is planning on reconstructing the overpass by next spring. They wanted those signs out of the way before they started construction, so that is why the city arranged to have them remove a couple of weeks ago now."
DeHaan says they do hope to put that sign back eventually. "We do want to put something back in, whether or not that happens at that location remains to be seen yet. We are obviously going to have to work with MTO on that because they have to give the permits and I probably expect that when it does come we probably will look at a redesign a little bit and try to improve them a little bit too."
"The project, as I understand it from the MTO, it is supposed to start in the spring of 2016 and it will be a 2 year project so they will work all the way into 2017. They are trying to keep traffic interruptions down to a minimum and they will be keeping that overpass open most of the time," deHaan says. "The new overpass will be wider and longer than the existing one, which will allow the 401 to be expanded to more lanes than it has right now."
