WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Police Community Task Force has been very busy.
Since October they have handed out 150 charges to 24 people and recovered approximately $34,000 in personal property along with two replica handguns, a bolt action rifle and a Taser. The task force was created because of a huge spike in property crimes in the City of Woodstock between August 2018 and October 2018.
The Task force has been very successful so far and has resulted in the following charges:
- 32 Theft
- 1 Break and Enter
- 29 Fraud
- 44 Possession of stolen property
- 21 Utter forged document
- 2 Take motor vehicle without consent
- 16 Breach of court orders
- 1 Controlled Drug and Substance Act
- 1 Weapon offence
- 2 Assault
- 1 Utter threats
Police Chief William Renton says that since the task force has been created, the Woodstock Police Service has seen a 50% drop in property related crimes in the Friendly City.
"This Property Crime Task Force is an exceptional example of the many resources of the Woodstock Police Service focusing on an identified issue specific to our community. One which produced outstanding results.” He further stated, the sad reality is many of the accused and crimes are linked to drug dependency and the drug subculture. An area we continue to put significant resources and attention towards."
