WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Police are preaching lock it or lose it after a number of cars were entered over the weekend.
Police say they were called to several vehicle entries in the Friendly City on Saturday and Sunday. The targeted areas were Pearson Drive, Falcon Drive, Lyndale Crescent and Hummingbird. All of the vehicles were left unlocked and some of the stolen goods include a DVD player, IPod and jewelry.
Woodstock Police are reminding the public to LOCK IT OR LOSE IT.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Police are warning the public about a Canada Revenue Agency email scam.
Several residents have complained about getting an email from Canada Revenue saying they will receive a tax refund if they forward their credit card information. Police are advising everyone that this is a scam and to never give your credit card information to anyone who requests it via email.
Police are also reminding the public to be wary of the CRA telephone scam after a local woman was duped out of $7,400. The woman was given a call from a fraudster who pretending to work for the CRA collection agency and said his name was Adam Spencer from Ottawa. He told the woman she owed back taxes from 2010 and that she would be arrested and not see her children if she didn't pay up right right away.
The woman sent the money to an address in St Catherine's and a second transaction was sent to Las Vegas. The victim is out $7400.00.
Woodstock Police are reminding the public not send any money to unknown sources. Contact the organizations directly using telephone numbers from a credible source. Never email personal or financial information. Always report fraudulent activity to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, www.antifraudcentre.ca or 1-888-495-8501.
