Woodstock Legion Sale Finalizes Today

Faithway Baptist Church will be moving into the Legion building on Brant Street in Woodstock.

WOODSTOCK - The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 55 in Woodstock is finalizing the sale of their building on Brant Street to the Faithway Baptist Church.

By the end of the day today the sale should become official. President of the Legion Stanley Whiston tells Heart FM he doesn't know right now where they will be moving to.

"Well we are looking at renting a storefront on Dundas Street for the time being, we did try to buy the Unifor building but the membership turned it down, we have been looking elsewhere and we haven't found anything yet that we deem to be suitable."

Whiston says they had to move because the Legion was too big and cost to much money to operate.

"It's large and expensive to operate when it was built we had 1,800 members and you can see the difference in the declining membership, we have lost all of the WW1 veterans and many of the WW2 veterans."

Right now the Legion has a membership of about 388 people. Faithway Baptist Church has bought the building with the intention of converting it into a place of worship.
