Woodstock Is Set To Have Their First park Named After Shanna Larsen

WOODSTOCK - Woodstock City Council has approved a park to be named after Shanna Larsen.

WOODSTOCK - Woodstock City Council has been approached to rename a park after Shanna Larsen.

The Recreation Advisory Committee presented the idea in front of council where it was unanimously supported. Mayor of Woodstock, Trevor Birtch, explains why this is so important. "Woodstock can be proud we now have our first park named after a female and for very special reasons. Shanna Larson worked for the city when she was young and of course unfortunately she lost her battle to cancer at a very young age."   

Shanna who was a Woodstock native lost her battle with breast cancer at 24, and her family started Team Shan in her memory. Mayor Birtch discusses how this came to be at Woodstock City Council. "This is really good, we have very resourceful committees and this came forward from our Recreation Advisory Committee, and just want to say thank you for them and of course all of the committees that the city has that is advancing the will of the people."   

Mayor Birtch spoke to Heart FM on what this means to have this park incorporated in Woodstock. "People will now know that not only was there this dedicated team behind her legacy but also whole city of Woodstock is behind it as well and recognizes all of her contributions that she made at a young age. This will be on the north side, north of Pittock in the Senator Homes Development Area."  

UPDATE: The name change for the park is still pending approval from City Council at an upcoming meeting. But the odds look promising at this point.
