Woodstock Donates $100 to Syrian Refugees

Woodstock City council has supported a request from AMO to help resettle two Syrian Refugee families

WOODSTOCK - Woodstock City Council has agreed to donate $100 to help support Syrian Refugees.

Woodstock approved the request from the President of the Association of Municipalities in Ontario or AMO. Mayor Trevor Birtch tells Heart FM the money might not sound like a lot but if every municipality follows suit then it can really make a difference.

"It's about strength in numbers and being able to demonstrate to our neighbours that we care and with their help we can accomplish great things together."

Birtch notes the money will be used to help resettle two families in safe countries.

"If all of the municipalities that are members here in Ontario each donate $100 we would be able to help resettle two families and I think with all the information in the media right now, with everything that is going on and both sides of the refugee crisis, it is a good opportunity for us to make a stand and say we are here for some of the most vulnerable people in the world."
