The Toronto-based company will build a medicinal marijuana processing plant on the corner of Devonshire Avenue, east towards County Road 4, after their first application was turned down in August.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock City council approved the zone change application for Willow Cultivation Inc.
The Toronto-based company will build a medicinal marijuana processing plant on the corner of Devonshire Avenue, east towards County Road 4.
Mayor Trevor Birtch says the facility will be beneficial to the Friendly City.
"Council saw the plans for the building. It's a standard industrial building and has great air handling qualities, so it'll be an improvement tot he area and no concerns from odours or smell from what's being produced inside."
Mayor Birtch says this will create 12 new jobs as well. City council approved their application during Thursday's meeting.
The application proposed to have the subject lands rezoned in order to build a medicinal marijuana processing facility. It
He says the plant won't be concern to the surrounding community.
"The regulations that the federal government has in place for this type of facility dictates that there needs to be security and fencing and proper air handling."
Mayor Birtch adds city staff will work with the company to ensure they're in compliance with these regulations.
Prior to selling the land to Willow Cultivation last month, council turned down their first zone change application in August which was to be built on lands on the east side of Woodall Way. He says they currently don't have a name for the future street the facility will be on.
There is no timeline on when construction of the building will start.
