All 32 residents were moved back into the facility Tuesday morning
A collective sigh of relief was felt amongst residents of Woodingford Lodge in Tillsonburg as they were finally let back into the facility.
All 32 residents of the long-term care facility were welcomed back Tuesday morning after being displaced since January 11 due to flooding from the sprinkler system.
Director at Woodingford Lodge, Corrie Fransen says they had several engineers working on the fire suppression system.
"We have a report from them and made the changes. The fire suppression system had some pipes and, I'm not an engineer, but they just didn't have the correct slope and that needed to be changed to ensure that there would be no water in the system that would freeze."
It took less than three hours this morning to get the residents back inside and Fransen says they were all thrilled to return home.
"We discussed how there was an aw inspiring sunrise this morning and I think we all appreciated that more than we maybe did in the past and it just makes you recognize that there are things to be grateful for and being home was something that everyone collectively was grateful for and reminded of what a great home it is."
Fransen says she can't thank staff at Woodingford Ingersoll and Woodstock as well as staff at Tillsonburg hospital enough for putting up residents while renovations were being completed in Tillsonburg.
"Everyone certainly worked as a team and ensured that the residents were still very well cared for and made them feel as much at home as they could. It wasn't home but it was the best we could do under the circumstances and without everyone working as a community, that wouldn't have transpired."
Fransen says she is confident the problems have been corrected otherwise residents would not have moved back into the facility.
No cost of damage was available at this time.
