OXFORD COUNTY - Court security and transportation talks are set to continue in the Oxford County Council Chambers.
A Local Court Security Advisory Committee says the county should pay for 40 percent of the deficit at the Woodstock courthouse, because it serves everyone in the area. The city of Woodstock would pay the remaining 60 percent because they are the host municipality.
Ingersoll Mayor Ted Comiskey is against the county pitching in funds, because it only brings business to the Friendly City.
"It generates dollars and cents through people coming into the city of Woodstock and spending money here and there, or staying overnight for court cases or having legal aspects of visiting."
Comiskey says the fact that all Oxford residents use the courthouse should not determine who foots the bill.
"We don't charge young people who want to come into Ingersoll into our Fusion Youth Centre; we don't charge them extra because they are outside of town. We don't charge Woodstock a certain amount of money or ask for them to pay for part of Fusion's costs, the same way as this with the courthouse as far as I'm concerned."
The courthouse currently employs members of the Woodstock Police Service.
County Council will discuss the issue at their meeting later this morning.
