The family for one of the victims in the Wettlaufer case was denied an autopsy by the coroner.
WOODSTOCK - The woman accused of killing 8 people made a brief court appearance in Woodstock this morning.
Elizabeth Wettlaufer appeared before the court via a video conference. The case was adjourned until November 18th to allow the defence to go over disclosure. Wettlaufer is facing eight counts of first degree murder after seven homicides in Woodstock and one in London. She was working at the nursing homes when the homicides occurred.
Andrea Silcox was at the courthouse, her father James Silcox is one of the victims. She told the assembled media her father was only in Caressant Care for 8 days before his death and she was always suspicious.
"And my father was a good strong man and because I work in long term care myself, it just didn't seem right. I asked my sister who is the POA about an autopsy and she asked for an autopsy and was denied. My sister the POA Diane Crawford said the coroner said he lived in long term care, he was 85 years old so why bother."
Silcox says her father was a fighter, a WW2 veteran and is hoping this court case will finally bring her some closure. She tells Heart FM about he last time she got to talk to her father James.
"Just to hold his hand and tell him, it's ok dad, you know the guys are out, it's holidays and no your not back in the war it's safe, it's safe here."
Silcox works at the Woodingford Lodge in Woodstock and lives in Ingersoll. She says she knows first hand the amazing work and care they provide at Woodingford but did not want to comment on Caressant Care. She spoke passionately about her father brought his bible to the court hearing. Silcox says he survived the war, diabetes, a little bit of dementia and for him to be brought down like this by this alleged killer is just really hard to take.
