It was the West over the East at the annual Niagara District Junior Hockey League All-Star game in Paris last night. In a showcase of the best players in Niagara Jr. C hockey, the Woodstock Navy Vets and Norwich Merchants were well represented. Woodstock sent four players to the game; Goalie Michael Roefs, defenceman Ian Bartlett, and forwards Mackenzie Langford and Jake Schneider. Unfortunately due to an injury sustained last weekend, Langford (Vet's captain and leading scorer) had to sit out the game. Norwich had three players on the roster; Brett Parsons, Gus Ford, and Zach Core. Roefs came into the game midway through the 2nd period with the West down 4-2 and made 16 saves on 18 shots. Bartlett picked up an assist on the opening goal of the game. Ford, a rookie forward with the Merchant's got on the scoreboard with a solo rush late in the 2nd period while teammate Brett Parsons ended the game with two assists. It was Vet's rookie forward Jake Schneider who picked up the victory for the team with 41 seconds left in overtime, lifting the West 7-6 over the East. Both teams return to their regular season action on Friday with Woodstock hosting first place New Hamburg and Norwich playing host to Simcoe.
