The Town of Tillsonburg is hosting a free event at Lake Lisgar to welcome back their Olympic hero.
UPDATE: The Welcome Back ceremony has been moved to the Kinsmen Memorial Arena because of inclement weather. It will still happen from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm tonight.
TILLSONBURG - The community will be gathering together to welcome back an amazing local athlete.
The Town of Tillsonburg invites everyone to come out to Lake Lisgar Waterpark from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. tonight to celebrate Evan Van Moerkerke.
Mayor Stephen Molnar says they are planning a relaxing celebration to welcome the Olympian home.
"Free swimming in the Waterpark during that time period. Corn, hot dogs, all free. But its really a relaxing period for families and children and a community and a region to come together and recognize an amazing young man."
They are hoping people really get into the spirit of it.
"We're excited - there's a poster contest for kids and we encourage everyone to wear their red and white and shout out their pride for Canada and our local athletes."
There is a Tillsonburg prize pack up for grabs in the kids' poster contest.
If the event gets rained out, they plan to schedule a make up date.
