Police are warning the public about a bank scam after a Waterford Senior lost $5,000.
WATERFORD - Norfolk OPP are warning the public to be cautious of a bank scam after a senior from Waterford was duped out of $5,000.
Police say the senior received a call from an unknown man claiming to be a manager from their bank. He told the victim that a teller had stolen money from their accounts and they needed their help in catching the thief.
The scammer told the senior to go to the bank and withdraw a large sum of money and put it into an envelope. He then went to the seniors house and asked for the money so he could apprehend the bank employee responsible for tampering with the account.
The suspect is being described as male, white, approximately 50-years-old, medium build, clean shaven, well dressed, wearing a tie and collared shirt with a jacket. The OPP are warning everyone that this is a SCAM and to be extremely vigilant if you should receive this type of call.
