Wastewater Plants Get Glowing Review

A majority of the County's municipal wastewater systems came back at a 100% compliance rating. Oxford County council received the results from the annual Wastewater Treatment Plant Summary reports for 2019 on Wednesday.

OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County council received good news from the annual Wastewater Treatment Plant Summary reports for 2019.

The results were provided by the Public Works Department at Wednesday's meeting.

Warden Larry Martin says out of the nine municipal wastewater systems tested, six of them came back with a compliance rating of 100%.

"I believe there's over 3,000 samples taken and are tested and then we have to send the results in to the Ministry of Environment. So it's not just fictitious numbers, there's data to back up those numbers."

The three remaining waste water systems received compliance ratings of 98%, 96% and 92%. The tests are conducted by the Ministry of Environment.

Warden Martin says the results are excellent.

"It's good for the environment and it's nice to know that the systems that we have in place are efficient and working well."

According to council's report, the results were based from 3,791 effluent samples taken over last year. 

The report also summarizes solar power and operational optimization projects that happened at wastewater treatment plants in Ingersoll and Woodstock last year respectively, which was to offset energy consumption at those facilities.
