The Warden of Oxford County took an opportunity at the ROMA conference to discuss energy
Warden David Mayberry represented Oxford County at the Rural Ontario Municipal Association Conference in Toronto.
While at the conference Mayberry discussed Oxford County's goal of having 100% renewable energy by 2050 with Energy Minister Glenn Thibeault.
Mayberry told Thibeault Oxford could benefit from a new energy metering program.
"We need to have a virtual net metering program that would allow the county or even individuals to produce energy in one place and be able to use it or compensate for it in another place."
Mayberry also preached the importance of conserving energy in general.
"If we can reduce the amount of energy that people are using then we reduce the amount of carbon that is going to be in the atmosphere or the cost of producing that energy. We know that the cheapest energy is that which we conserve so we want to encourage that. It's good for the economy and it's probably good for the environment as well."
The ROMA Conference provides elected officials in rural areas with the opportunity to discuss important matters with members of parliament.
