Retired school custodian Gail Donaldson adds her name to Ward 2 Councillor ballot in EZT.
HICKSON - Three names are now on the ballot to become Ward 2 Councillor in East Zorra Tavistock.
Retired Hickson resident Gail Donaldson filed papers earlier this week.
"Having worked for a school board for 32 years, you have to make a lot of decisions. I was Charge Custodian at Hickson School so you have to weigh the pros and cons of every event or thing that happens in there and make an informed decision before you make a decision. I think I have learned a lot from having that job."
Donaldson says she has always been interested in politics.
"Right from municipal right up through to the federal. I've thought about this before but because I was working for the school board, to get time off to attend meetings, I could not give 100 percent of my time to it so I just thought, now is the time. I have retired and I have the time to put more effort into this."
Donaldson says the biggest challenge going forward is maintaining the services that residents enjoy without exorbitant increases to taxes.
"Our fire, our police, our garbage, you know, just everything on the day to day running of a township but in the mean time keeping taxes at a level people can afford."
Donaldson joins Don MacDonald and Mike Campbell on the ballot at this point.
